Trick or treating is not run by the City and is not an official City of Greenbelt event. The City is recommending that residents follow CDC guidelines by getting vaccinated if you’re eligible, wearing masks in indoor spaces and avoiding large groups. When trick-or-treating, look for houses with their porch light turned on, most houses not participating will turn their porch light off. 

Recommended trick-or-treating hours in Greenbelt are typically from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

Dr. Askew, Dep. Chief Administrative Officer for Health, Human Services and Education in Prince George’s County, stated, "We must stress that anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19 or recently have been exposed to the virus should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not be giving out candy at their doors,".  Other guidance includes:

-        do not go or hand out candy if you are sick, have symptoms, or were recently exposed; 
-        trick or treat in small groups from the same family household;
-        do not have everyone reaching into baskets, instead use a scoop or tongs to distribute treats;
-        use hand sanitizer often, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth;
-        upon returning home, wash your hands with soapy water before opening treats.
