Police Impersonator Scams: What You Need to Know. Be cautious of scammers who pretend to be law enforcement or representatives of government agencies. These individuals can manipulate caller ID to make it appear as though they are calling from a legitimate agency. They often use scare tactics to pressure you into providing money or personal information, which can lead to identity theft. Common threats include claims that you have a warrant for your arrest or that you owe back taxes, creating urgency to prompt payment. If you receive a suspicious call, it’s important to contact the agency directly using the official phone number listed on their website. Protect yourself and your personal information from these scams. Stay aware and vigilant.
