Announcing “Online Bill Pay” Capabilities for City of Greenbelt Residents

On September 3, the City of Greenbelt will be launching online bill pay services.

What is this feature all about?

Specifically, online bill pay allows residents to schedule and pay bills from a computer, tablet or mobile phone. Our online bill pay service with Edmunds works by deducting a payment directly from a resident’s account and transferring it to the City using an echeck, bank transfer, or debit card or credit card. 

This means rather than sending a check to the City by mail or visiting the City’s Finance Office, the resident’s tax payment, waste collection payment and retiree payment can be deducted electronically in the form of a one-time payment or recurring payment as set up in the resident’s account.

What are the Benefits of “Bill Pay”?

• Convenience: Resident can pay and monitor your bills from one location.
• Credit Score: When you set up automatic payments, you minimize the chance of being late or delinquent, which can damage your credit score. On time payments helps one’s credit score.
• Decrease Identify Theft: Online bill pay allow you to pay everything digitally, resulting in less paper statements mailed to your home.
• Saves Money: Checks, stamps, envelopes and trips to the post office are eliminated.

And we’ve made sure to make set-up easy. Here’s how it works:

Sign into the City’s “bill pay portal” to register your account

Create Account by entering your email address

Enter the verification code sent to your mailbox

Enter Requested Information (i.e., name, phone numbers and create password)

Once your account is setup, then pay your bill

• Tap “Pay Bills”
• Select the bill you want to pay
• Enter the amount to pay and tap Schedule
• Review payment details and tap Schedule
• Make the Payment
• You will receive a payment confirmation via email on file 

This feature works directly with our new system Edmunds system integrating with other Edmunds GovTech modules which automatically reflects payment activity as it occurs.
