Mayor Pro Tem
Kristen Weaver was elected to Greenbelt City Council in 2021, serving as the first councilmember from the new neighborhood of Greenbelt Station, where she and her husband have resided since moving to Greenbelt in 2015. She serves as Mayor Pro Tem and council liaison to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board and the Greenbelt Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability.
Kristen was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado. She earned a B.S. in computer science and psychology (2004), a teaching certificate (2005), and an M.A. in education (2006) all from the University of Denver. Kristen taught middle school science and mathematics in Denver Public Schools from 2005 to 2007, before moving to the D.C area to teach middle school science in Montgomery County Public Schools from 2007 to 2013. In 2013 she started as an education and outreach specialist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, first with Universities Space Research Association and currently with Science Systems and Applications, Inc.
Prior to running for council, Kristen served for three years on Greenbelt’s Park and Recreation Advisory Board. She is the chair of the Activities Committee for the Greenbelt Station homeowner’s association, on the leadership team for the Greenbelt Neighborhood Composting group at Springhill Lake Recreation Center, and an active participant with the Connecting Across Greenbelt organization. Work with these organizations, as well as attending other local meetings and events, helps Kristen meet people from all sections of Greenbelt, and serves as a focus on what she loves about Greenbelt while also identifying ways Greenbelt can be better. As a member of Greenbelt City Council, she hopes to be part of bringing neighborhoods together and building a stronger sense of community for all city residents.
