 Small Cell Franchise2

As technology progresses, there has been an increased demand for wireless broadband service and new improvements in wireless communications technology. As a result of the progression of technology, cellular service providers have begun installing small short-range antennas in cities across the United States as part of their network. While the Prince George's County Zoning Ordinance regulates the installation of antennas on private property in the City, the City can regulate installations in City rights-of-way.

The City Council enacted legislation to regulate some aspects of wireless telecommunication facilities installation within the right of way, including location, placement, aesthetics, notification process, and fees. Any person wishing to install wireless telecommunication facilities in City right-of-way must first execute a Franchise/Right-of-Way Use Agreement with the City, unless that person holds a franchise from the State which authorizes it to use the rights-of-way for that purpose, without further permission of the City. Please read Ordinance 1367 in the "Resources" section for more information.
