About the Caregiver Support Group:
We provide a judgement free environment where caregivers, family and friends of loved ones with chronic health conditions come to:
- · Exchange practical information on caregiving problems and possible solutions
- · Talk through challenges and ways of coping
- · Share feelings, needs and concerns
- · Learn about resources and support services available in your community
The group meets every 2nd Wednesday of the month 6:00-7:00 pm at the Greenbelt Community Center 15 Crescent Road.

About the Memory Café & Support Group:
We provide a stigma-free environment for those with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment or other forms of dementia and their spouses, partners and caregivers.

What the Memory Support Group offers:
- A safe environment to express feelings and concerns
- An opportunity to meet and bond with others who share similar experiences
- Education about the disease and linkage with support services and program options
- The Memory Support Group meets on 2nd & 4th Wednesdays from 1:30 - 2:30 pm in the Council Room of the Municipal Building, 25 Crescent Road.
What the Memory Café offers:
- A great opportunity for lively discussions, socializing, information gathering, refreshments, camaraderie, and engaging creative fun!
- An opportunity for the caregiver and their loved one to work together to highlight activities that members can still participate in, with the goal that this will spark some interest in activities that can be continued in a home setting.
- A place to meet and form friendships outside of the group
- The Memory Café meets on 1st & 3rd Wednesdays from 1:30 - 3:00 pm. in the Municipal Building - Council Room 25 Crescent Road.
Please note that the program is not suitable for people with dementia to attend alone if they have specific care needs such as: problems with incontinence, mobility issues that require aid, high levels of anxiety or disorientation, history of wandering.
This FREE program is a partnership between Bowie State & Washington Adventist University Schools of Nursing and the Greenbelt Assistance in Living Program.
This program open to Greenbelt seniors age 60+ or disabled adults 50+ who reside within incorporated City limits.
Participants will receive up to 6 home visits from student nurses.
- Participants will receive up to 10 home visits
- Home visits are offered either weekly or biweekly on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
- Student nurses are fully vaccinated will wear personal protective equipment.
Free services offered include:
- Bathing Assistance
- Blood Sugar Monitoring & Assistance with Finger Sticks
- Health Education
- Vital Signs Monitoring
- Patient Advocacy with Health Care Professionals
- Medication Management...and more.

The City of Greenbelt has a new program to offer savings on prescription drugs to residents who are without health insurance, a traditional benefits plan, or have prescriptions that are not covered by insurance.
The Prescription Discount Card is made available to residents by the City of Greenbelt in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC) and is made possible through City of Greenbelt membership in NLC.
The card is free to all Greenbelt residents, regardless of age, income, or existing health insurance. By using this card you may save an average of 20% off the regular retail price of prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.

For more information, call toll free at 888-620-1749.This is not insurance. Discounts are only available at participating pharmacies. By using this card, participants agree to pay the entire prescription cost less any applicable discount. Saving may vary by drug and pharmacy.
This food program is a partnership with the Capital Area Community Food Bank. It offers seniors on a fixed income the ability to supplement their existing food budget through the distribution of nutritious nonperishable food items and toiletries.
Participants receive a minimum of one bag of supplemental food and toiletries each month. Participants pick up their distributions on the third Tuesday of the month at the GAIL Office (25 Crescent Road, Second Floor). Green Ridge House residents pick up their bags in the lobby of the building and homebound residents have their bags delivered to their door. The goal of this program is to offer seniors the opportunity to get out of their homes and socialize in addition to supplementing their diet. For a $10 donation, you receive 12 bags of groceries over the course of the year at a cost of $0.83 per bag. Income guidelines do apply.

The Senior Nutrition Program serves hot lunches Monday through Friday in the Commercial Kitchen at the Community Center.
Senior citizens must reserve a hot lunch at least a day in advance to ensure that enough meals are delivered. Meal donation requested is $3. Please call 301-397-2208, ext. 4215 to make reservations..
Every day a telephone call will be placed to a participant at a regularly scheduled time. These calls will take place between 8:00am-4:00pm as close as possible to the one-hour time block pre-selected by the participant. If the participant does not answer their first call, they will be tried two more times. If those calls go unanswered, additional calls will be made to notify an alternative person who is selected by the participant during the program enrollment. This could be an adult child, a neighbor or another loved one. The alternate will then be encouraged to check on the program participant.

Each person must apply on his and her own be-half. The information that is mandatory includes:

The Patuxent Widowed Persons Service (PWPS) conducts six-week support groups to help newly widowed persons adapt to their new circumstances.
This program is open to widowed men and women of all ages, races, and creeds. It is sponsored by AARP and the Greenbelt Senior Citizens Advisory Committee. Both emotional support and practical information are provided.
