The City of Greenbelt now has an AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer. AKC Pet Disaster Relief is a national program dedicated to keeping pets and their owners safe in the aftermath of emergencies or natural disasters. The trailer was delivered to the City of Greenbelt and the Greenbelt Community Animal Response Team (GCART) on June 7, 2022. To further celebrate its arrival, the trailer will be on display at the:

Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 10 am to 2 pm

The trailer will also be the backdrop for a noon event that will include a group photo of the Hyattsville Dog Training Club members and a remembrance of one of their most prominent members who passed away at 101 in March 2022. The Hyattsville Dog Training Club was the major sponsor for the City of Greenbelt in its effort to obtain a pet disaster relief trailer.

The AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer helps to create a safe, temporary emergency shelter for at least 65 pets for 72 hours after an emergency or a disaster is declared. The trailer houses and delivers essential animal care items including crates and carriers, AKC Reunite microchips and an AKC Reunite universal microchip scanner, bowls, collars and leashes as well as fans, lighting and generators, cleaning supplies and maintenance items.
