Prince George’s County to Host Virtual Information Session on New Resident Advisory Group for Climate Action and Environmental Justice Resident Advisors to serve on Climate Implementation Task Force

LARGO, MD – The Prince George’s County Department of the Environment (DoE) will host a virtual information session on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:30 p.m. for County residents interested in serving as a member of a new Resident Advisory Group (RAG) that will help guide the implementation of the County’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) and serve on the Climate Implementation Task Force. RAG members, also known as resident advisors, will advise on strategies and actions to propel the County towards a carbon-neutral and climate-ready future.

“This Resident Advisory Group is formed in accordance with the signing of Executive Order NO. 5-2022 that will be essential for securing the County’s climate future, reducing our carbon footprint, and preventing the worst impacts of extreme weather on our residents,” said County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. “I am proud that the Climate Action Plan will include input from our community so we can hear how they are impacted and what we can collectively do to help.”

DoE Director Andrea Crooms adds that this group will help address the serious impacts of climate change we are already seeing through worsening storms, runoff, and flooding. “We welcome the community’s input in helping us do our part to protect our community by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and creating a climate-resilient County.”

Community members passionate about climate action, environmental justice, and resiliency are encouraged to apply, ages 16 years and up (parental permission must be provided for participants under 18). The RAG membership will consist of at least twelve (12) but no more than fifty (50) residents, with the final number determined by DoE based on interest and other factors. Membership will be comprised of representatives of organizations and individuals. All members must be County residents and may represent County-based non-profits, faith-based entities, social organizations, and schools. The County will strive to achieve representation that reflects the geographic, age, economic, gender, and racial diversity of the County. DoE encourages all interested parties to review the CAP found at mypgc.us/climateactionplan before attending the information session.
