Public Art - Zoom Meeting

Motiva Public Sculpture Commission

  • Date: 08/08/2023 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Location: Zoom

Greenbelt community members are invited to attend a virtual meeting with artists under consideration for a public art commission at the Motiva apartment community located on Cherrywood Lane. Sign up now to receive the meeting link and participate in a post-meeting survey. After Monday, August 7, write to ndewald@greenbeltmd.gov to request the link. This meeting is hosted by the Greenbelt Recreation Arts Program and the Greenbelt Arts Advisory Board.

Greenbelt Metro Apartments LLC is seeking to commission a sculptural work for the entrance to the Motiva community or another location at the site. Karl Alt, Vice President for Development at the NRP Group which built Motiva, will present on behalf of the sponsoring agency.
Attendees at the August 8 meeting will have an opportunity to see examples of past projects created by the finalists. These include: Ali Mirsky and Christopher Duffy; Erwin Timmers and associates at the Washington Glass School; and Kirk Seese. All of the teams include at least one artist based in Maryland.
After the meeting, attendees will be invited to participate in a Google survey and share their thoughts and preferences. Greenbelt Metro Apartments LLC and the City of Greenbelt will then select one artist or team to design a work of art for the site, where it can be freely accessed and enjoyed by all Greenbelters.
