Greenbelt Co-op MeatOut Day Event

  • Date: 03/18/2024 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Mayor Emmett Jordan has issued a proclamation declaring March 20, 2024, MeatOut Day, encouraging residents to explore plant-based eating for all the reasons mentioned in the proclamation, including health, the environment, and compassion to animals. There will be cooking demos at the Greenbelt Co-op Supermarket, located at 121 Centerway, Greenbelt, MD on Monday, March 18 from 11-1 and 3:30-5:30 as well as special promotions during that week. Please come out and participate to help make this first MeatOut Day a success.

MeatOut Day, celebrated annually on March 20, marks the national celebration of a plant-based lifestyle. This initiative, which began in 1985, empowers thousands of people across the United States to explore the many benefits of plant-based eating. By choosing plant-based foods, individuals contribute to the well-being of animals, their own health, and the planet. 🌱🌎

Here are some ways you can participate in MeatOut 2024:

  1. Take the MeatOut+1 Challenge: Recruit a friend, family member, or co-worker to skip meat for one day on March 20.
  2. Share Your Meals: Post photos of your plant-based meals using the hashtag #MeatOut.
  3. Spread Awareness: Share MeatOut memes on your social media pages.
  4. Recommend Plant-Based Foods: Let your friends know about your favorite plant-based meatscheeses, and ice creams by sending them a plant-based shopping list.
  5. Host a Virtual Vegan Potluck: Challenge friends to make a meal from our MeatOut Menu and enjoy a (virtual) feast together.
  6. Write a Letter: Write a letter to your local newspaper explaining why you’ve chosen to drop animal meat from your diet.
  7. Advocate for Proclamations: Help secure a government proclamation in your hometown, encouraging others to join the movement.

Remember, every small step counts! Let’s make a positive impact together. 🌿🙌
