Friends and Family Art Workshop

Monarch Migration: a butterfly flash mob!

Celebrate the annual fall migration of monarch butterflies to their winter home in Mexico, and bring some creative magic to your community! Decorate a simple puppet at the Community Center workshop on 9/13. Then come to the Springhill Lake Recreation Center on Sunday, October 20 at 1:30pm and participate in a butterfly puppet flash mob in conjunction with the HUG WALK!*  Register for activity #433204-1. $5 Greenbelt residents, $10 non-residents. Walk-up registration will also be welcome while supplies last. Recommended for ages 5-adult.

Please wear your painting clothes. We will be using latex paint; if you are allergic to latex, please let us know in advance and we will provide an accommodation. Your workshop leader will be Caitlyn McGillen. At the end of the workshop, the butterflies will remain at the Community Center, to finish drying and have their handles attached. The puppets will then be brought to the Springhill Lake Recreation Center on the day of the HUG WALK. We invite you to come to the Center that day and participate in the Fluttering - a butterfly flash mob, to greet the participating walkers. If you are so inclined, you can join the walk with your puppet! Either way, you are welcome to take your puppet home. If you are not able to attend the HUG WALK, we ask that you permit another volunteer to use your butterfly that day. Butterflies that are loaned out will be collected at the end of the day and brought back to the Community Center for their creators to pick up. The Springhill Lake Recreation Center is located at 6101 Cherrywood Lane.
