Public Hearing: Prince George's County Summer Staffing Plan
Thursday, November 14, 6:30 pm
Prince George's County Fire Chief Tiffany Green announced earlier this month that, for the time being, career firefighters will not be returning to Station 835 in Greenbelt. Prince George's County is holding a public hearing on the Fire Department's summer staffing reallocation on Thursday, November 14, at 6:30 pm in the Council Hearing Room of the Wayne K. Curry County Administration Building located at 1301 McCormick Drive, Largo, MD 20772.
It is important for residents to sign-up, provide testimony, and attend the hearing in-person so that we can continue to show support for our Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department and for the safety of our community. This can be done by visiting the County's eComment portal:
"This eComment portal serves as an alternative method of public participation in the Council's virtual meetings. Here you may register to speak on agenda items that are scheduled for public hearing. Additional opportunities for public input during Council Committee work-sessions may be allowed at the discretion of the Chair. You may also submit a comment or letter into the official public record, in lieu of verbal testimony. "
This step is an essential step to speaking at the County's meeting as it allows the commenter to request to speak on the item. This must be done prior to 3 pm on November 13 (the day before the meeting). Neglecting to do so result in the opportunity to be provided at the discretion of the Chair.
To assist residents with travel and attending the hearing, The City of Greenbelt will be running two (2) shuttles between Green Ridge House and the Wayne K. Curry County Administration Building where the hearing is taking place. Shuttles will begin leaving Green Ridge House at 5:45 pm and will run through the conclusion of the hearing.
Background material, a timeline of events, and letters to/from the County Fire Chief can be found at https://www.greenbeltmd.gov/government/police/greenbelt-volunteer-fire-department.
The agenda will be posted on the County's site and more information can be found at https://princegeorgescountymd.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx.
We will update this post with more information as it becomes available.
