Membership
- Seven young people no older than 18 at time of appointment or reappointment
- Two adult non-voting members
Purpose
The purpose of the Youth Advisory Committee is to advise the City Council on matters affecting children, youth, and their families.
Mission
The Youth Advisory Committee is dedicated to working with City Council to promote safety, awareness, and involvement among Greenbelt youth and families. It is our mission to ensure that youth needs and interest are seriously considered in crucial decisions that affect the entire community as well as promote teen involvement in Greenbelt through service and positive social leadership.
Liaison
Current Members
Chair, Arsalan Siddiqui is a senior at Roosevelt. He joined to help ensure that young people in Greenbelt are empowered and have a voice in their government. He is also a member of the National League of Cities Youth Delegate Committee. There he plans and heads workshops at the conferences. He also will be serving as a Youth Delegate for Prince George's County in Annapolis. Arsalan is part of the varsity Tennis team and loves to read the newspaper.
Vice Chair, Findley Holland is a Sophomore at ERHS and is one of the newer members of the committee. Findley joined YAC in order to give a voice to people who don't have one, such as gay and transgender people. Outside of school and YAC, Findley works at the New Deal Café and is in theatre, in front and behind stage, all around Greenbelt. Findley moved to Greenbelt in 2015 and cant wait to change the future of the youth in Greenbelt.
Secretary, Honora Hammett is a senior at Roosevelt. She joined the committee in early 2014 because she wanted to give youths a voice and to advance the community between Greenbelt and its youths. Outside of school, Honora is part of the cross-country team at ERHS and she is a French tutor in her spare time.
