Council Vacancy Application - **Deadline Extended to Jan. 18 by 5 pm**

Due to the loss of Councilmember Ric Gordon, a seat is vacant on City Council. After discussing next steps during the Monday, December 11, 2023 Regular Council Meeting (view at www.greenbeltmd.gov/municipalTV), the Greenbelt City Council is seeking to appoint this seat to any qualified voter who meets the qualifications of a regular City election, as stated below. 

Nomination

Any qualified voter who is at least 18 years of age may be nominated for the office of member of council upon filing at the office of the City Clerk:

  • A nominating petition signed by not fewer than fifty (50) voters;
  • A written acceptance of the nomination;
  • Such other statements as may be required by this charter or by law;
  • Completed financial disclosure form;
  • A statement of intent will be required. Please explain why you are seeking to fill the vacant council seat. One (1) page maximum;
  • A résumé.

Upon the finding by the City Clerk that the nomination petition, the written acceptance, and such other statements as may be required are in order, the name of such nominee shall be authorized to be brought forth to Council for consideration of appointment to the vacant council seat. Jan. 23: Special Meeting for Candidate Interviews

Jan. 24: Special Meeting for Deliberation and Selection
