Current Salaries: The Greenbelt Police Pay Salary Schedule and Command Staff Salary Schedule can be found on the Human Resources' Wage Schedule page.

Overtime Pay: Time and one half the employee’s hourly rate is paid for work in excess of 40 hours per week. A minimum of 3 hours overtime is paid when the employee is required to appear in court while off duty. When required to work on holidays, the overtime rate is one and one half times the basic rate of pay in addition to the holiday. Employees may opt to earn comp. time with limitations.

Equipment: Initial issue and replacement of uniforms and equipment are fully furnished to Police Officers by the Department, to include maintenance and laundry.

Annual Leave: Annual Leave ranges from 13 to 26 days per year based on tenure – maximum annual accumulation of 240 hours. Annual leave is accrued during the probationary period but is not credited to the employee until after the permanent appointment is received.

Holidays: There are eleven (11) paid holidays per year.

Sick Leave: There are thirteen (13) sick days provided per year, unlimited accumulation.

Administrative Leave: Administrative leave is provided for professional development.

Group Life Insurance: The City provides Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance in the amount of $50,000, plus the option to purchase additional for self, spouse and children.

Group Health Insurance: The City pays 85% contribution for Health Insurance (HMO/OPEN ACCESS/PPO). Contribution is based on Open Access rates.

Dental Plan: The City pays 80% of dental coverage premiums.

Retirement: Maryland State Retirement and Pension System – Law Enforcement Officers Pension System (LEOPS) Minimum - 25 years Service or age 50

Deferred Compensation Plan

Social Security: Social Security is provided in addition to retirement.

Take-Home Vehicles: Employees are eligible for take-home vehicles with limitations after completion of field training.

Fitness Program: Award up to $800 per year

Night Differential: $1.50/per hour

On-Call Pay: $20/day

Residency Bonus: $250 per month for Police Officers who live in the City of Greenbelt

Greenbelt Home Ownership Grant: $2,000 toward purchase of home in the City of Greenbelt

Tuition Reimbursement: Employees removed from probationary status are eligible to receive tuition reimbursement with limitations

Reapplication Process: If you fail any part of the exam (written/physical agility) you may reapply one year from the date of the test.

Applicants that pass both the written and physical agility testing, but have been found to have a significant issue in their preliminary background interview which would disqualify them for consideration will be ruled ineligible to continue in the process and will be allowed to reapply when the issue has been resolved.
