Public Works Environmental/Sustainability Intern
The City of Greenbelt Department of Public Works is looking for a motivated and knowledgeable individual that wants to engage the public on environmental issues that impact the local community as an Environmental/Sustainability intern. The Environmental/Sustainability intern will assist the Environmental and Sustainability Coordinators with creating, scheduling, and executing community outreach programs and events. These programs and events will include workshops, volunteer events, and seminars that focus on ways local residents can mitigate their environmental impact through every day activities and small projects at home. Topics covered through these programs and events include rain barrels, rain gardens, permeable pavement, composting and vermicomposting, invasive plant species removal, waste management via recycling, terracycling, and litter pickup, pet waste management, and wildlife education.
A qualified applicant should have the following:

A working knowledge of local environmental issues and their impacts on the Chesapeake Bay

General knowledge of sustainable practices and technology

The ability to multitask, be punctual, and work independently

The drive to take the initiative and be a self-motivator

Excellent writing and public speaking skills

Community engagement and event planning experience
The time commitment for this unpaid internship is a minimum 10 hours a week, which include some weekend hours. You must have transportation to and from the Public Works facility located at 555 Crescent Road Greenbelt, MD 20770.
